Stop motion animation is created when frames (a picture of a toy where their position is slightly changed in every picture) are joined together rapidly to make a moving video. As I mentioned earlier, the first stop motion film called ‘The Humpty Dumpty Circus’ was invented in 1898 using dolls with joints to imitate the movements of circus acrobats. Stop motion has pros and cons too: It can have more detailed movements than CGI (computer generated imagery) but it can be quite time consuming because each frame has to be set up manually which takes time to get it right.

You can make your very own stop motion too! Here are the steps:

1. First, make a setting. For example, if your animation was set in a forest make some paper trees or get some twigs from a park
2. Next, get a device to make your frames and find a reliable stop motion website or app to use.
3. Then, get a toy or toys that you are going to use in your film. Make sure they are not bigger than your setting!
4. You are ready to start! Take photos of the toys but remember to move the toys a tiny bit in every photo.
5. Join them together on the stop motion website or app to create a brilliant film for you and your family to watch.
